Mayor Annise Parker's Legacy

Mayor Annise Parker has served three terms as Houston’s Mayor. I am here to look over her record and highlight the sad truth that her many positive accomplishments will be overshadowed by her subpoena of Houston pastors.

I have in the past supported Annise Parker and when it comes to her many accomplishments I still do, however, her attempt to silence pastors that were against her policies is inexcusable

During her three terms, she has introduced a pay-as-you-go system for improving drainage, which has greatly improved drainage in Houston. She has also created an independent overseer to City of Houston crime lab operations. She implemented a long term financial plan. Also, she implemented a historic preservation ordinance.

Those are the things she has done which I agree with. However, the point of this blog is to point out that despite her good record of helping the city, she will not be remembered for it.

Annise Parkers subpoena of pastors sermons gained her national attention. It was an example of a mayor who saw herself as a dictator and wished to scare away opponents of her ordinance. The act will unfortunately overshadow her positive record as we look back at her tenure from a historical perspective.

It is sad that Annise Parkers record will be overshadowed by such a controversy; however, her record has done more good for Houston than harm.

  1. I don't agree with many of Mayor Parker's policies, but she made a huge mistake with the subpoenas!
