While poll numbers show the 2015 Houston Mayoral Race
belongs to Sylvester Turner and Adrian Garcia; finance reports tell a different
story. A Houston Campaign finance report names Adrian Garcia and Steve Costello
the two front runners in their race for campaign financing.
The cities campaign finance report offers an intriguing
glimpse into how the 2015 Houston’s Mayor Race will pan out.
A few blogs back, I reported that the poll numbers on the
Houston Mayor Race told that this was a race between Sylvester Turner and
Adrian Garcia. Of course, poll numbers are the most important indicator of how
Houstonians feel about the mayor’s race. However, funding determines how the
campaigns themselves will be run. Sylvester Turner is leading the polls, yet,
his campaign will be forced to be one of the smallest in the race. Steve
Costello could see a significant jump in the polls as Steve Costello and Adrian
Garcia are the only two candidates with over 1 million dollars to spend on
their campaign. Giving Steve Costello a chance to become the cities first
Republican Mayor. Adrian Garcia is left with an advantage as he is the only
candidate doing well both in the polls and in terms of campaign financing.
The election is getting exciting as we near Election Day. Us
Houstonians will choose between a long time Houston fixture that has
represented our area in the Texas Legislature for over 30 years, a successful
Harris County Sheriff and the possibility of Houston’s first Republican Mayor!
Excellent blog. So glad to hear there is a viable republican candidate for mayor of Houston. Will be watching this race!
