Houston's First Green Corridor

In the 1990’s, the City of Houston passed a green corridor ordinance, although it has taken till today for a green corridor to be designated. I am very happy that Yale Street has been designated as the city’s first Green Corridor.

In the 1990’s The City of Houston passed a Green Corridor Ordinance. The Ordinance states that a neighborhood organization can pursue a Green Corridor designation if they can get 75% of the property owners on the street to sign a petition requesting their street be designated a green corridor.

This year, the Houston Heights Association successfully campaigned for Yale Street to be the first street in the City of Houston to be designated a Green Corridor. Now, all trees along the street and trees in the median will be preserved by The City of Houston. I am very happy with this designation and perhaps in the future, more streets will be designated Green Corridors.

  1. That's a great idea. I'm glad the city is working towards preserving trees. I also like the idea that the neighborhoods control it.
