Houston to build New Rugby Stadium

The city of Houston will receive a new rugby stadium.

This new stadium will be excellent for sports in Houston. The stadium will be a 3,500-seat stadium and will host the Houston Sabercats in Major League Rugby. The project will be built at the Houston Amateur Sports Park on Texas 288 in south Houston. The Sabercats will begin playing at the stadium during the 2019 season. The city will retain ownership of the site and lease it to the Sabercats for 43 years. The city will use $32 Million from its 2012 bond package to reimburse the team for the cost of building a 760-space parking lot and public utilities. As part of the deal, the Sabercats will provide at least 200 hours of children’s rugby training annually along with hosting high school rugby matches and free rugby camps for children aged 6 through 14. Houston continues to grow as a sports powerhouse.
